1929 Balbiani organ sounds splendid in its new home

Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carlton

We are proud to announce that our firm's refurbishment, relocation and installation of the 1929 Balbiani organ in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church (attached to the Corpus Christi College) in Carlton is now complete. The work includes a carefully reproduced music desk, in Balbiani style, made from solid walnut.

The organ was blessed by Most Reverend Denis Hart DD, Archbishop of Melbourne, during Solemn Vespers on March 25 2012. After vespers a short recital was given by Paul Taylor, Geoffrey Cox and the Gregorian Schola of Corpus Christi College. This included the motet Ecce Deus by Don Mario Pettorelli which had also been performed at the blessing of the organ in April 1930 at the Brigidine Convent, Randwick (the chapel Balbiani was originally commissioned to build this organ for). Also played was Sonata in F Major by Gaetano Piazza for two organs, utilising the gallery organ and the Balbiani.
